A Message from Pastor Gery

For Reflection: 1 Chronicles 16:1-36
Key Verse: Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful. (Colossians 3:15)

We certainly have a lot to be thankful for this year. Our Lord, who is over all things, has, yet again, amply supplied us with our daily bread. This provision certainly includes this year’s harvest, but it also includes God’s abundance of supply with respect to clothing, shelter, family, peace, good reputation and the like. This year we can prayerfully add thanks for God’s provision of protection from disease. Not a single moment of our lives passes by without God’s notice, and not even one thing, then, comes to us without His care. But God’s abundance far surpasses these simple earthly provisions.

After being in isolation for five months, God returned us to His holy house, to be blessed to hear His comforting Word and to be joined with Him in His sacrament of Holy Communion. We can once again worship together in His holy presence as His people. Rejoice and be glad!

In Old Testament times, the Philistines raided Jerusalem and carried away the Ark of the Covenant, the very mercy seat of God which was kept in the most holy place within the Tabernacle (God’s holy tent of meeting in and amongst His people). When the Ark was finally returned, all of Jerusalem celebrated. King David danced in the street, and everyone worshipped God. They too could worship together again, in the presence of God.

“Oh give thanks to the LORD, call upon His name; make known His deeds among the peoples. Sing to Him, sing praises to Him; speak of all His wonders. Glory in His holy name; let the heart of those who seek the LORD be glad.” (1 Chronicles 16:8-10 (NASB)

This beautiful hymn of praise was lifted up to the glory of God and to the benefit of all who heard it. It pointed to the one true God who granted His people His blessings not just now but eternally.

“Seek the LORD and His strength; seek His face continually,” their song continued. “Remember His wonderful deeds which He has done, His marvels and the judgments from His mouth, O seed of Israel His servant, sons of Jacob, His chosen ones! He is the LORD our God; His judgments are in all the earth. Remember His covenant forever, The word which He commanded to a thousand generations, (1 Chronicles 16:11-15 NASB)

Remember God’s judgement, because in the midst of meeting all of your earthly needs He has declared you righteous by the blood of His One and only Son and met your heavenly needs, declaring you His own child. Proclaim it with thanksgiving along with your thanksgiving for His overwhelming generosity.

As God has glorified us, may we glorify Him, giving thanks to Him for all of His provision, in Jesus’ name

Prayer: Save us, O God of our salvation, and gather us and deliver us from the nations, to give thanks to Your holy name, and glory in Your praise. (1 Chronicles 16:35)
